Iraq, lead by Saddam Hussein, invaded its neighbor Kuwait in 1990. The United States, lead by President Bush, responded by demanding Iraq leave Kuwait. Iraq did not leave. The US army built up an overwhelming force on the border of Kuwait, in Saudi Arabia. Eventually, the US invaded Kuwait and liberated it. The US army then continued into Iraq, but stopped short of Baghdad. The US suffered 345 deaths, the rest were Iraqis.
